NewsChannel 3 hosted a phone bank on Monday, March 23 for St. Jude's Dream House tickets.
April M. Warren, Senior Event Marketing Representative for ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, tells us the ticket 'sell-a-thon' was a great success! In 90 minutes, we raised at least $18,000 for the kids at St. Jude. 180 tickets were sold, which was an increase of 60 tickets from last year. In addition, toll-free ticket sales were also up by 80 Tuesday morning.

*If you reserve your ticket before March 25, you will be eligible for the early bird prize: $5,000 shopping spree at Ferguson Bath and Kitchen Gallery.*

NewsChannel 3 hosted a three-hour telethon to raise money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital back in April 2008. WTKR Anchor Laila Muhammad captured that story:

A half a million dollar house could be yours, for only $100! Sounds too good to be true, but that dream became a reality for a North Carolina man on April 20. Clyde Wayne Copeland from Tyner, North Carolina, is the lucky winner of the 8th annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway! A truck driver for 30 years, Clyde says he didn't think he was going to win; he says he donated the money to help the children at the St. Jude Children's Research hospital.

Thousands of people across Hampton Roads donated $100 each to the children's hospital. In turn, their names were entered into a drawing for a half a million dollar dream home. Let me tell you: the dream home is absolutely beautiful! We're talking 2500 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a spacious walk-in closet (plenty of room for your shoes, ladies!), and the kitchen drawers close like Porsche doors! Not to mention, the house is a half a block over from the beach! Dave Parker and I had a ball hanging out at the house all morning, interviewing the builders of the home, and the many people who donated the amenities. And while the phones were ringing off the hook back at the studio, we were surprised to see people show up to the house, with credit cards in hand, wanting to donate as well. It was an all around team effort. The people who work with St. Jude are so passionate and caring, everyone.

It's so wonderful to see people come together for a good cause. I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. And to be able to tell the stories of how people go above and beyond to help others is one of the best parts of this job. ________________________________________________________________________________________________

NewsChannel 3 First kicked off the St. Jude Dream Home Campaign in November 2008. WTKR's Pat McReynolds captured that story:

With a rousing "One two three... Yeah!", organizers and sponsors of this year's St. Jude Dream Home symbolically turned some earth.

The actual construction of the dream home is well underway.

But as a proud sponsor of the Dream Home campaign for years, NewsChannel 3 believes you can never celebrate enough, the work that directly supports the healing of sick children.

"You see what they go through... And it makes it easy to give your time and your effort and your dollars to St. Jude because you know that the work that they are doing is important", said this year's campaign chairperson, Pet Decker, III.

And all you have to do is ask little Gracie Ogle.

Two years ago, she had a tumor in her brain the size of a lemon.

Doctors told her parents there was no hope. That is, until they went to St. Jude.

"Not only did they tell us that she was going to be ok... But they made our flight arrangements down there, they make sure that we have food paid for... A roof over our heads.", Grace's mother Julianne told NewsChannel 3.

Thanks to care funded solely by donations, Grace is now cancer free... and even looks forward to her hospital visits.

"For a two year old to love a place like that... That just speaks volumes.", said Julianne.

For just 100 dollar, people can buy a ticket for a chance to win a beautiful 3000 square foot house in Chesapeake, generously donated by Stephen Alexander Homes.

One of the company's principals, Stephen Quick, told NewsChannel 3, "Knowing that we are actually going to be a part of something that is going to directly impact a child's life has been something like we've never experienced."

The home will have the best of everything, and if you buy a ticket, the children like Grace treated at St. Jude will get the best of care.

The tickets won't go on sale until February, but if you want to check out the home, it's at 1845 Burson drive.

Only 11 thousand 500 hundred will be sold, but even if you don't win the home, there are many other wonderful prizes, and all of the money goes to a great cause.
