NORFOLK, Va. - Despite a storm that left many city streets under water, Norfolk is beginning to stir to life.

Workers trickled to their jobs Friday amid flooded streets, high winds and leaves and branches scattered throughout the downtown area.

At US Hairways, owner Ray Brock was seating his first customer in his two-seat barbershop. Brock worked on Thursday during the height of the storm.

Brock said customers expect him to be in his shop and he won't disappoint them.

Architect Tom McVey said most of his office reported to work Friday, though a leaky wall had left some of his co-workers mopping up desks.

The coastal Virginia city was drenched by nearly 8 inches of rain over the past two days.
