LENOIR, N.C. (AP) — A Republican state senator won't run for the North Carolina Legislature again next year because he says he needs to pay attention to his wife's health.

Sen. Jim Jacumin of Burke County told the Lenoir News-Topic Wednesday he would serve until the conclusion of next year's legislative session, which begins in May.

Jacumin is a 72-year-old retired engineer and businessman in his third two-year term representing Burke and Caldwell counties. He and his wife, Nancy, have been married more than 50 years.

Jacumin has been interested recently in legislation to create a new kind of "low-profit" company structure that he thinks could re-energize the textile and furniture industries.
