NewsChannel 3 was the first to tell you about a survey sent to Virginia Beach city workers asking them how they
would cut money from next year's budget.
We have the results from that survey. Nearly 4,000 city employees responded.
Question one: would you rather be furloughed, see a 1 percent pay cut across the board, or see layoffs?
The number one choice was furloughs, followed by the pay cut. Layoffs was the least popular choice.
Questions two: what other cuts would you make to save the city money?
The number one choice was eliminating take-home cars. The second most popular choice was to close the city one day per week.
The survey was conducted by Virginia Beach's city manager Jim Spore. Spore told city workers in an email that it's too early to say which cuts will be made, if any.
The city promises to use the employees' input when it is time to write up next year's budget.
