YORK COUNTY The Virginia Department of Transportation will detour motorists beginning this evening at
5:30 p.m. from I-64 East before Camp Peary (Exit 238) in York County. Closure is expected throughout the
night. Detours are in place.
Earlier today a car carrier struck an overhead sign structure. The overhead sign structure has been inspected and the damage presents a hazard to motorists. The overhead sign structure will be removed tonight.
Motorists will be diverted from I-64 at Route 199 South (Exit 234A). Route 199 will loop motorists back onto
I-64 East. VDOT crews are estimating the sign structure can be removed and the lanes reopened by morning
rush-hour.
Heavy congestion is expected on Route 199 in Williamsburg and James City County. Motorists are encouraged to be alert and to use caution.
