Detectives and crime scene investigators look for clues as to what happened in a bizarre shooting off Catina Way
at the Mariners Landing Apartments in Newport News.
When police arrived, they found multiple shots had been fired. Bullets pierced through a car, one breaking a backseat window.
Police say shots were also fired at the apartment. A window was blown out, and the front door had been shot at.
Police believe the person or people who did the shooting were outside of the apartment aiming at the victims who were inside.
According to Officer Harold Eley, "the individuals that were in the apartment were simply there at the apartment. Nothing else was going on. And then shots rang out."
Police say 29-year-old Christian Hatch was inside the apartment, and was shot mulitple times in the chest and the head. He later died at the hospital.
Also, a 19-year-old man was shot in the foot. Police say he should recover from his injury.
Police say two others were also inside the apartment when the shooting happened, but they were not hurt.
While police still don't know why the shooting happened, they do believe that the shooters purposefully shot at the apartment.
This does not appear to be a random incident.
