VIRGINIA BEACH—
Wednesday afternoon, police responded to an accident on Lynnhaven Parkway in front of The Pines at Green Run apartment complex where a 12-year-old girl was been hit by a car.Police now confirm this accident was a hit-and-run. A vehicle struck the girl and fled the scene. Immediately after that, police dispatchers issued a "be-on-the-lookout" report for a blue 1999 Chevrolet minivan with front-end damage. About 15 minutes later, officers broadcast that they had located the vehicle and had arrested the driver.
The suspect is 36-year-old Mark Richard Tietjen of Virginia Beach.
The child was transported via Nightingale to CHKD with life-threatening injuries. At this time, there are no further updates on her condition.
