A fatal vehicle accident leaves a mother and daughter dead. 35 year old Tanya Woodruff Mise and 3-year-old Lauren Makenzie Mise were ejected from a 2003 GMC Yukon after it collided with a 2006 Scion TC. Both suffered severe trauma.

This happened Tuesday October 20th around 8:30 pm. on the intersection of Dam Neck Road and Corporate Landing Parkway. Police and Emergency officials were called to the scene.

Lauren was pronounced dead at the scene and Tanya was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver, a 38 year-old Emporia man, and his two year-old son were not injured in the crash. The driver was the husband/father of the two victims. The driver of the Scion, a 57 year-old Virginia Beach woman, was transported to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Fatal Crash Team investigators learned that the victims were traveling eastbound on Dam Neck Road going through the intersection of Corporate Landing Parkway. The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Scion was traveling on Corporate Landing Pkwy and disregarded the red light at Dam Neck Road. As she went through the intersection her vehicle struck the Yukon on the driver's side, causing the Yukon to overturn.

Tanya Mise was not wearing her seatbelt. Lauren Mise was seated in a car seat. Investigators are still trying to determine how she was ejected from the car seat.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Scion. No charges are pending against the driver of the GMC Yukon.

This crash remains under investigation by the Department's Fatal Crash Team with MPO Scott Franklin as the lead investigator. NewsChannel 3 will keep you updated with any developments.
