William Banks was as excited to see his three dogs as the dogs were to see him. They all used to live in this house, along with Banks' two sons in Oceanview. Last week's floods have left William, his sons, and the dogs homeless.

"Me and the dogs and my son, we slept out in the truck for two nights. My other son was staying with an ex-girlfriend. She and I are still best friends and he was taking care of her."

William said he didn't have a choice. Trying to find a landlord that would let him keep three dogs in the backyard is impossible.

"It's been real hard. I've got about two pages of phone numbers I've called and the Red Cross is about the only people that's called me back."

Like many people, William's dogs are more than just pets. They are part of the family.

"My oldest dog, he really helped me when my wife passed away," he said.

We took action to help William find a place for the dogs, at least until he can find a place for the entire family. And we got results.

VCA Animal Hospital in Norfolk said it would put an ad on its website telling people who to contact if they are interested in providing a foster home for the dogs. William says that will help until he can find everyone a new home.

"Every time you get a glimmer of hope it gets snatched out from under you. Even what I got now, that's only temporary, it's only going to last a few more days."

"That's my biggest fear but people, I guess they always say people come before the animals but the animals have always been like people to me."
