Bald eagle released into the wild at Westover Plantation
A bald eagle is back in the wild after being nursed back to health. NewsChannel 3 obtained pictures of the president and co-founder of the Wildlife Center of Virginia releasing the bald eagle today at Westover Plantation.

The eagle was released there because it is across the James River from a National Wildlife Refuge which is one of the largest eagle roosts on the east coast.

The eagle was found with a broken wing and unable to fly in June at the King & Queen County landfill.

This is not the first time the eagle has attracted attention. The bird caught media attention as an eaglet in 2003.

One of the eaglets was banded in 2003 by Doctor Bryan Watts of the College of William & Mary. Bands are put on eagles to help track the populations.
