V-DOT says one lane of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel westbound tunnel will close again at 7:00 tonight and remain closed through 9:00am Saturday.
The lane closure will continue on an off all weekend as crews work to finish repairs on a pump.
The malfunctioned after Wednesday night's storm, causing the tunnel to flood.
V-DOT officials say yesterday's flood was caused in part by a computer malfunction in the fire system. That system kept pumping water in because the water pressure went down when the leak started.
Why was there no backup pump? A V-DOT spokesperson said she didn't know but that the leak was so big to begin with a backup pump wouldn't have helped.
The spokesperson did say V-DOTis in the process of upgrading the pumping system and is installing pumps that can work under water.
