NewsChannel 3 viewers are coming to the rescue of abused and neglected horses being cared for by a local rescue group that relies on nothing but donations

Scott Kosek took action and wrote out a $1,000 check to the U.S. Equine Rescue League in Elizabeth City after seeing NewsChannel 3's recent story on how more and more horses are ending up in this stable because they were abandoned or abused by their owners. Many because they could no longer afford to care for them.

"When the economy is the way it is the animals are usually the first to go, they're just not taken care of."

Scott couldn't sit back and not help.

Amy Woodard with the rescue says other NewsChannel 3 viewers have also taking action.

"We've got all kinds of adoption applications, foster applications..."

"There was a person who brought feed to the barn and left it here with no note and if they're watching I'd like to thank them for that, because I don't now who they are and I call them the food fairy"

In just two weeks, NewsChannel 3 viewers and horse lovers from all over Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina have sent in cash - a lot of it.

"The total's about $1,700…and that will buy a load of hay that will feed horses … until Christams, so that's really good"

Leaving amy eternally grateful to you and NewsChannel 3.

"You guys are my heroes. You help me feed these horses and you help all the volunteers to come together and do what we do best and that's save the horses from dying"
