Suffolk police are charging a woman for cruelty to animals.
Investigators say Jennifer Harrell tied up five horses to a tree and left them to starve on Wilroy Road.
One of the horses had to be euthanized. The other four are recovering but are underweight by several hundred pounds. It may be months before they recover completely.
Police say Harrell is charged with five counts of animal cruelty, and faces up to five years in jail if she's convicted.
