Newport News police say Christopher Barrett walked into the city jail this morning.
They've been looking for him after finding out the Hampton Roads regional jail released him by mistake earlier this month.
Police say the jail released Barrett because of a clerical error on November 5th, but police didn't learn about the mistake until this week.
They're now holding Barrett in their own jail without bond, charged with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
