This morning at about 3:23 a.m., Newport News police received a call of a shooting in the 500
block of Catina Way in the Denbigh section of the city. Responding officers found two male victims, one
suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and head, the second with a single gunshot wound to a foot.
Both men were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Christian Kendrick Hatch of the 500 block of Catina Way was pronounced dead at 6:09 a.m. at Riverside. He was 29 years old. The second victim, a 19-year-old Newport News man of the 100 block of Matoka Drive, was treated for a non-life threatening foot wound and is currently being interviewed by police.
The preliminary information indicates the gunfire happened outside the victim's residence, striking both men who were inside. No suspect information is available in this ongoing investigation.
