At 11:00 Friday morning dozens of people filled the Norfolk SPCA including Mary Ferguson and her granddaughter Mary. All anxiously awaiting to take home one of the 33 poodle mix puppies rescued from a Pennsylvania puppy mill.
Most of these puppies are just a few months old and have never been outside of their crates.
Norfolk SPCA workers didn't waste any time getting these little pups ready with festive bandanas.
Finally after a few minutes SPCA workers brought the puppies out to meet their new owners.
And just like Mary many held the newest member of their family for the first time.
Unlike most puppies these owners all have to be prepared that because these little guys came from a puppy mill, they may have some extra fears of going to a new home.
Mary says she's given a lot of thought about her new puppy-- and wants him to have a fresh start too.
"I'm going to change his name to Mochie because he is a little white fluff thing - after the Japanese rice balls so we are going to take Koda home and rename him to Mochie.
Norfolk SPCA officials say they are being careful with who gets to adopt these puppies. Friday only 15 of the 33 puppies were adopted.
SPCA workers expect to find homes for all of the dogs - they say they just need time to go through the hundreds of applications.
