Corolla, NC - The body of a 60-year-old Pennsylvania man who disappeared while swimming at night off of Corolla last week was found yesterday on the beach in Kill Devil Hills. The State Medical Examiners Office in Greenville has determined the cause of death to be multiple injuries sustained from shark bites

Richard A. Snead of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was last seen swimming near mile post 4 1/2 in Corolla sometime after 9pm on September 12 and was reported to be missing a short time after midnight by his family.

Kill Devil Hills police say a tourist taking an early morning walk along the beach Thursday found Snead's body.

Assistant Police Chief Dana Harris says when his officers examined Snead's body it was difficult to tell how he had died.

Currituck County and Kill Devil Hills lifeguards are warning swimmers to be alert in the water, especially at night.

It's believed bull sharks were responsible for fatal attacks in Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks on the same weekend in 2001.

That Labor Day weekend a ten-year-old boy from Richmond was attacked and killed in the Sandbridge section of Virginia Beach.

That same weekend a man died after being attacked on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His girlfriend lost her foot in the attack.

1,032 shark attacks have been recorded in the history of the United States. Virginia has had 4, North Carolina 35.

According to the Florida museum of natural history New Hanover and Onslow Counties have recorded the most unprovoked shark attacks with 8 apiece through last year.
