They sniff, they stretch, and they play - and there are hundreds of cats that need homes at the Virginia Beach SPCA.
"We have 316 cats in our care today - that's almost a hundred more cats than we had the same time last year," said Sharon Adams, executive director of the Virginia Beach SPCA.
With so many cats, NewsChannel 3 teamed up with the 75 dogs that also need to be adopted at the Virginia Beach SPCA, and together are taking action to help get all the furry friends adopted before the holidays.
Many of the cats that need homes here at the Virginia SPCA are adult cats, and these are usually the easiest friends you can find because most of them already have set personalities.
"We have cats that live with other cats, cats that live with dogs, cats that live with children - so you can come in and pretty well know what your lifestyle is, what your circumstances are. You can find a cat that will fit into that lifestyle and circumstance," Adams said.
You may think adopting a pet and giving it as a gift is not the best thing to do, but the Virginia Beach SPCA disagrees.
"What the research is now shown to us is that folks that acquire a pet on a holiday are just as likely to keep the animal as if they acquired it any other time of the year," she added.
So before you go to the mall to get that special someone in your life a gift for the holidays, consider one of these animals who call the Virginia Beach SPCA home.
