Friday night football turned into Friday night flu for one Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach.

"Its like really weird being here with no one here pretty much."

Catholic high cheerleader Sarah Short had to settle for cheering on her friends on the field hockey team because the football game was cancelled.

Athletic Director Tom Kilpatrick has been studying attendance sheets, not play books, this week. He says the number of kids out with the flu kept going up, and up and up.

"Over 100 today, and kids going home sick during the day. It's been a very hectic week."

"Everyone is like 'oh where is this person'? She's got swine flu."

Now the flu has hit the football field. Kilpatrick says about half the football team is out sick. Administrators had no choice but to call the competition and ask to postpone.

Officials say it was a tough call to make for a team that has only one loss this season but they'd rather give everyone a nice long weekend to recover.

In the mean time cleaning crews will sanitize all the locker rooms, while administrators plead with students.

"If you're sick, don't come to school, wash your hands. Don't share it with anyone else."
