Virginia Beach, Va. - A Virginia Beach police sergeant is facing jail time after a drunken driving arrest.
A state trooper caught Sgt. James E. Riddick, who goes by his middle name, Eric, after the Super Bowl on I-264 near Independence. That's not far from where Riddick works in the city's third precinct.
Court records show Riddick was 'weaving' and when the trooper stopped him he noticed a 'strong alcohol odor.'
The trooper noted he 'failed all field tests' and registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .18. That's more than twice the legal limit. If Riddick is convicted at that level, he faces a mandatory minimum of five days in jail.
Riddick's arrest comes four months after another Beach officer, Bryan Womble, was convicted of drunk driving. Womble, who is no longer with the department, was one of the officers targeting drunk drivers. He also served mandatory jail time.
Riddick is on administrative duties. His trial is scheduled for March 18.
