The police department dive team is back in the water months after an officer died during training exercises.

Today, the team trained in the water at North West River Park on Indian Creek Road.

The week of Christmas, the team was training at Oak Grove Park when Officer Timothy Schock started having trouble in the water.

He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

An investigation revealed two pieces of equipment failed, contributing to his death.

Schock reportedly had problems with his equipment prior to that training but got in the water anyway.

The dive team says there isn't a day that goes by that they don't think of the fallen officer.

The dive team told NewsChannel 3 the department has new equipment including all new buoyancy compensators.

They say the biggest change for them is that now four medics from the fire department are with them during every training.

Those medics are an active part of the trainings as well.
