Man allegedly shoots two relatives after altercation at family gathering

Norfolk, Va – Police have arrested Darryl Lee Speller, 22, of the 2900 block of Bapaume Ave, for allegedly shooting two family members after an argument at a family gathering.

Police say the shooting happened around 11:50pm Saturday, on Johnstons Rd near Chesapeake Blvd.

Speller left the family gathering after a verbal altercation with the two victims, who began following him, police say, and at some point, Speller shot both family members, and left the scene in a minivan.

During the shooting, one of the rounds fired by Speller struck an occupied vehicle. No one in the car was injured.

Officers were able to locate the minivan and Speller was taken into custody without incident.

Detective are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.

Speller has been charged with Malicious Wounding, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Speller is being held in the Norfolk City Jail.
