Kitty Hawk, N.C. - A 72-year-old man was rescued from his sailboat on Wednesday after he told crews that he was unconscious for seven hours. He believes he may have fallen and hit his head.

Rescuers were called to the scene at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The victim, Trevor Wilson from Great Britain, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General after a rescue swimmer took him off of the sailboat.

"He had been all the way down the east coast of Europe and then crossed the Equatorial current and came up to the Caribbean and his last stop was Antigua and then he was headed to Little Creek before this incident," says Chad Watson with the Coast Guard.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to him via Skype today.

"He was a great survivor. All and all it was a really good day, everybody made it home safe and we all had a good time," says Watson.
