Newport News, Va. – A Newport News woman has been charged after police found her two children alone while she was inside a local ABC store, police tell NewsChannel 3.
On Thursday, May 1, 2014 around 5 p.m., police responded to a 911 hang-up call at the ABC store in the 3200 block of Jefferson Avenue.
An officer arrived on scene and saw a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl alone in a car with the rear window rolled down.
The officer located the driver of the car inside the ABC store and identified her as the children’s mother, Crystal Nicole Simmons, age 27, of the 600 block of 31st Street.
Simmons was issued a summons for misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Child Protective Services was notified.
