Thanks to our generous viewers, the NewsChannel 3’s former meteorologist Dr. Duane will finally get the helper he needs.
We have the first pictures of Dr. Duane's new dog.
The folks at Paws Training Centers selected a goldendoodle puppy over the weekend.
She's headed to Virginia Beach in a few weeks to begin training with Duane.
Viewers helped to raise thousands of dollars to help get the service dog. Dr. Duane needs the dog to help him with a severe case of narcolepsy.
“I have broken lots of bones falling out of bed or running into walls,” he says.
Duane`s violent dreams are just part of the problem. He also has cataplexy which are attacks where he loses muscle control and collapses.
Service dogs are specially trained to help people perform tasks necessary to daily life. For Duane, the dog could rescue him when the dangerous dreams come. The dog could also help with cataplexy.
