WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – State Police are investigating after a fatal single vehicle accident on eastbound I-64 Friday afternoon.
The accident happened near Exit 243 shortly before 2:30 p.m.
A 1998 Ford Explorer being driven by 39-year-old Timmy Clary of Norfolk was heading eastbound on I-64 when the crash happened.
According to Virginia State Police, Clary’s vehicle ran off the road and he over-corrected, losing control of his vehicle.
The Explorer struck a guardrail and overturned. Clary was ejected from the vehicle.
He was taken to Riverside Hospital where he died.
No one else was inside the vehicle and there were no other injuries as a result of the crash.
State Police said Clary was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and that speed played a factor.
All eastbound lanes were closed for the investigation and traffic was diverted off at Exit 243B.
