WILMINGTON, N.C. – The coast guard medevaced a man Monday from a fishing boat off the coast of Corolla.
Watchstanders at the Sector North Carolina Center in Wilmington received a call for assistance at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, for an ailing man aboard a fishing boat.
The man’s boat was about 34 miles east of Corolla and an already airborne MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter overheard the call and responded.
The helicopter was conducting a training mission at the time and they were able to lower a rescue swimmer to the boat and hoist the man to the helicopter.
The man was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
