9 animals killed after house fire in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Crews responded to a house fire in the 40 block of Harvard Road early Thursday morning.

The call came in around 1:08 a.m., and crews arrived just minutes later to find a single family residential structure fire.

The fire was under control and extinguished at 1:26 a.m., reports say. Three dogs, two cats, and four birds were removed from the structure deceased.

No civilian or fire personnel injuries were reported.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Portsmouth Fire Marshal’s Office, which can be reached at (757) 393-8689.
