CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The Chesapeake Sheriff's Office are investigating a death of an inmate after a deputy found an unresponsive inmate Sunday morning.

A deputy was performing a routine safety and security check when he found an inmate unresponsive around 11:09 a.m., according to officials.

Deputies and medical staff began life-saving measures immediately. EMS medics arrived and took over, but 39-year-old Roy Foor was pronounced dead.

Deputies say the death of Foor is due to an unforeseen medical emergency in his housing unit.

Foor was admitted into the Chesapeake Correctional Center for a parole violation on September 4, 2019.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, but officials say there is no reason to believe it is COVID-19 related.

The Chesapeake Police Department is conducting an investigation of the death and the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation.
