Triple-A says Virginia gas prices nearing 2008 record

Penny by penny, gas prices are nearing a record high for Virginia.

TheTriple-A’s Mid-Atlantic office says the price of a gallon of gas is about one dime away from the $4.01 mark set on July 17, 2008. The auto club said it expects that per-gallon price to be surpassed within the next week or two.

As of this week, the price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Virginia was $3.91, about one penny less than the U.S. average.

The Virginia gas prices are up about one quarter from last month, and more than 30 cents from 2011.
