Posted

More than 800 Virginia National Guard soldiers were honored for their service in Iraq.

A Freedom Salute ceremony was held yesterday for them at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The soldiers are assigned to the Portsmouth-based Task Force 183.

They served in Iraq from August to December.

As part of the ceremony, the soldiers received the Virginia Governor's National Service Medal.

The Freedom Salute was also a chance to recognize soldiers' families and others who supported them while they were deployed.
