For weeks, Virginia Beach Police used surveillance pictures trying to find the suspect who attacked a Beach man.

They have now identified him as 24-year-old Jason Dill, who was arrested Wednesday morning.

Investigators say the victim was trying to stop a fight inside of the Junior Market near the Oceanfront last month before the attack happened.

The victim’s injuries were so severe that he was in a coma for nine days.

NewsChannel 3 spoke with friends of the victim days after the attack.

They say he’s well known in the Beach community for his big heart; that’s why it’s no surprise to them that he tried to stop the fight that night.

Jeremy Marks says, he is “Always trying to do the right thing; that's what he does. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. “

The victim is out of the hospital now and spoke to NewsChannel 3 off camera. He asked us not to use his name, but the Plaza Middle School basketball coach says he has regained his strength and is now walking again. He hopes to return to work soon.

Dill has been charged with unlawful wounding and is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

NewsChannel 3 wanted to hear Dill’s side of the story, but he denied our interview request.
