York County sheriffs and fire crews say a suspicious package was reported at the Victory YMCA in the 100 block of Long Green Blvd.
YMCA staff had already been evacuated as a precaution when fire units arrived.
Deputies confirmed that there was a suspicious item in the men’s locker room.
Fire crews then investigated and determined that it was a plastic bottle with a non-hazardous liquid inside that had been left in a vehicle, overheated and became severely deformed.
Deputies say the deformity of the bottle made it look like a “bottle type” explosive.
They believe that someone brought the bottle in to throw it away, but inadvertently left it sitting on a sink in the men’s restroom instead.
Members of the YMCA staff were allowed to return to the building.
