Police in Norfolk have made an arrest in the attack of two Virginian-Pilot reporters.

It happened last month on Church Street and Brambleton Avenue.

Police announced today they charged a 16-year-old with participating in a riot, assault by mob, and destruction of property.

NewsChannel 3 is working to learn exactly what constitutes a “riot” or “mob.”

Police say the reporters were driving when someone threw something at their car. When one of the victims got out of the car, several people attacked him and his passenger.

Some on social media have suggested the attack was racially motivated.

That suggestion drew national attention Wednesday night on FOX News Channel’s “O’Reilly Factor.”

Police say they do not know what caused the attacks. They say they are not investigating it as a hate crime.

NewsChannel 3 has a crew working this story, and will have new details starting First at Four.
