Commanding officer of the USS The Sullivans relieved of command

Cmdr. Derick Armstrong, the Commanding Officer of the USS The Sullivans based in Mayport, Fla. has been relieved of command.

According to the Navy, he was relieved as a result of an unprofessional command climate that was contrary to good order and discipline.

Cmdr. Armstrong, who took command of USS The Sullivans Nov. 7, 2011, has been administratively reassigned to the staff of Destroyer Squadron Fourteen.

Capt. John Esposito, deputy commander, Destroyer Squadron Six Zero, has temporarily assumed command until a permanent replacement is assigned.
