Virginia Beach police are looking for 19-year-old Nathaniel Mitchell.
They say he, along with several others, attacked a 15-year-old autistic Landstown High student who was leaving school yesterday afternoon.
Police say the teenager was walking through a cut through when a group of guys approached him. They asked him for his money and when he said no, investigators say they pushed him from the back and he fell to the ground. They started kicking him and that’s when they grabbed his backpack.
A neighbor tells NewsChannel 3 he saw the teen and called 911.
“A boy came running out of the field; he had a bloody nose and shirt,” says the neighbor.
He says the robbers didn’t get away with much. The teen only had ten cents and school supplies in his backpack.
Though the neighbor doesn’t know the student, he says this crime hits close to home, since his brother is also autistic.
He says, “You can’t take advantage of somebody who is mentally incapable.”
He says it’s frustrating to know all the teen wanted to do was take a different way home.
Now police are looking for Mitchell who is facing robbery charges.
Investigators hope he will lead them to the other teens involved.
