A Chesapeake man is obsessed with saving gas. He drives thousands of miles a month between home and work and credits NewsChannel 3 with helping him save big.
Philip Twine drives his 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer at least 1,000 miles from his home in Chesapeake to his job in Newport News.
"I'm paying about $320 a month that goes toward gas", says Philip.
He makes that work whether prices are $3.99 or the current average of $3.58. Philip depends on WTKR.com to help find cheap gas with the Gas Tracker.
"The easiest thing you can do is go to the website, put in your zip code and whatever the nearest gas price is to you, that's the one you take," says Philip.
Philip says he uses it with the different zip codes between Chesapeake and Newport News as well as other areas.
"It looks like it's getting cheaper, but you never know, it can go up and down", says Twine.
Philip says he also makes sure to get the oil changes when they're due. He also pays close attention to the amount of air in his car's tires and the tire tread.
Philip says, "One thing I've learned is you can't control what the gas prices are, but you can control how you take care of your car."
