Deputies say two brothers tried to rob a Joppa market in Gates County. They say the owner shot and killed both of them.
Gates County Sheriff Edward Webb says Eddie and Quintin Felton stormed into the store as the owner was stocking shelves.
Webb says Quintin beat the 60-year-old as he tried to get cash out of the register.
Webb says that's when the owner reached for his gun and started shooting. Just as Deputies say, Eddie pointed a rifle at the owner.
Both suspects died at the scene.
Shirley Hinton, who knows the owner, says she's shocked robbers targeted his store since he has owned it for only three months.
"We aren’t used to a whole lot of action down here,” says Hinton.
Now the District Attorney is going through the evidence trying to figure out if the owner will face charges.
