Tom Hanks is headed to Virginia Beach.
Earlier today, Governor Bob McDonnell announced part of the movie “Captain Phillips” will be filmed in the resort city area.
Tom Hanks will play the role of Captain Richard Phillips.
The movie is based off of Captain Phillips’ book “A Captain’s Duty.”
In April of 2009, Phillips surrendered himself to Somali pirates in order to save his crew after the Norfolk-based ship was hijacked.
Navy SEAL snipers from the USS Bainbridge later shot and killed three pirates on the lifeboat holding Phillips.
