Two men were ejected from a boat after a fire causes an explosion at the Lynnhaven Marine Boatel.

One man had to be taken to the hospital with bad cuts to his face.

“Everybody was jumping in, two of the two guys jumped in the water to save who was in the water,” said one bystander.

One of those rescuers spoke with NewsChannel 3 off camera, he says the boat had four men on it, and they had just gassed up before going out on the Lynnhaven River.

Not far from the dock the boat stalled out, they tried to restart it, and that's what turned a perfectly good boat into a crispy shell of itself.

"We heard explosions and looked down and we saw the boat engulfed in flames," he says.

Most of the damage is to the front right of the boat. The inside of it looks like an oyster reef.

It's as if the boat had been buried in the water for decades, not fully functioning earlier in the day.

After having seen the boat taken over by fire, witnesses are surprised this much of it remains and no one died in the explosion.

"Somebody's looking out for them,” they said.
