Newport News Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire Tuesday morning shortly before 10 a.m.
It happened in the 100 Block of Eastwood Drive in the Denbigh Section of the City.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire showing.
Police say one person has died in the fire.
Officials say most of the damage was done on the right side of the home on the porch. Residents say there were oxygen tanks inside the home for medical reasons.
Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Michael Steven Passacantando.
Officials say the victim died at the hospital.
