Two alleged drunk drivers hit the same Virginia Beach officer in two separate accidents only four months apart.

The second crash happened early Monday when the officer was on patrol on Virginia Beach Boulevard near the Pavilion.

The force of the crash sent the officer’s car on the sidewalk.

Police have charged Johnathan Fullington of Chesapeake with driving drunk as well as possession of a controlled substance.

The officer wasn't badly hurt but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

It was a much different outcome than in March when he was hit just a few blocks away on First Colonial Road.

The driver in that case – Shakia Allen – is charged with DUI as well as felony hit and run.

“Back in March, the same officer going through an intersection responding to a call was hit by a drunk driver. At that time, he was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated out,” says MPO Jimmy Barnes.

The officer recovered and was back to work when he got hit again doing a job that's inherently dangerous.

“It's dangerous anytime you're out there with traffic in a marked police car or just an officer doing his duties. It's a dangerous job,” says Barnes.

The officer is now recovering at home.
