Posted

Seven local disabled vets are in Richmond competing for the top spot in the National Veteran Wheelchair Games.

The event is put on by the Veterans Affairs Department. There are 17 sports for more than 600 athletes to participate in, with every single state represented in the competition.

Hampton Roads vets are competing in the Slalom event.

Both Joseph Lewis and Michael Hudson medaled in the competition.

Any honorably discharged veteran who uses a wheelchair and is served by the VA healthcare system was eligible to compete this week.
