Police find body of 10-year-old drowning victim at the beach

Virginia Beach police say they have recovered the body of a 10-year-old Chesapeake boy who went under Sunday afternoon at the Oceanfront.

Police say at approximately 1207 a.m., an officer on patrol along the shoreline found 10-year-old Lakee Copeland's body in the surf in the 7000 block of the Oceanfront. (70th Street).  The body was transported to a local hospital, where he was positively identified as the child that had disappeared in the water earlier on Sunday evening.  

According to police, around 3:00 p.m. Sunday an adult and four children were on a sandbar at 61st Street.

They became distressed and other citizens heard them yelling out for help.

The other citizens were able to help the adult and three of the children, but could not find the fourth, Lakee Copeland.
