Hampton, Va. – A Hampton man was arrested early Sunday morning on domestic assault and battery charges after a standoff with police.

According to police, at 1:02 a.m., Hampton Police Communications received an e911 call in reference to a domestic assault in the first block of Westminister Drive.

The victim advised that she and her boyfriend, 26-year-old James Daniel Jones Jr., got into a domestic verbal altercation during which she was physically assaulted.

The victim was able to leave the residence at which time she told police that Mr. Jones remained inside the home and was possibly armed with a firearm.  Officers at the scene also learned that there was one additional resident inside the home.

After several hours and numerous attempts to contact the individuals inside the residence with no avail, both the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams were activated.  Mr. Jones then surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Jones was arrested and charged with 1 count of Domestic Assault and Battery.

The second individual inside the residence was not charged or injured.
