What started as a normal and routine day for James Dix turned out to be his last.  Newport News Police say they received a call at 5:25 Monday morning for a shooting and robbery at 25th Street and Parish Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene they learned that the victim was waiting at a bus stop on his way to work, when a man approached him with a long gun.  The suspect robbed the victim then shot him.

The suspect continued to shoot at the victim as he tried to run down the street to his house.  The victim was transported to the hospital, where he died later Monday morning.

Two girls working in the area discovered the gun that police believe was used in the shooting.  The gun was found 2 blocks away from the shooting in the backyard of an abandoned house.
