According to Virginia State Police, a 26-year old man died Wednesday in a single vehicle accident on I-64 at Ft. Eustis Blvd.
They say he was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry eastbound on I-64 when traffic slowed to a stop and the vehicle ran off of the road. They say he lost control and hit a tree.
The driver, identified as Keith Walker of the 4000 block of Orcutt Avenue in Newport News, and his passenger, Chanatha Dinia Nettles, 23, of Hampton, were both transported by nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General.
Walker died from his injuries and the passenger remains in critical condition.
Police say it is unknown if alcohol was a factor and both were wearing their seatbelts.
