A Portsmouth grand jury returned an indictment charging 26-year-old Michael Ecklin with murder.
The victim, Jalisa Knight, was shot and killed on Mount Vernon Avenue in May of last year.
Ecklin was served the indictments while in the Hampton Roads Regional Jail.
He was in custody on unrelated robbery charges.
Those charges are from two additional victims Ecklin is accused of trying to rob moments before Knight's murder.
