Virginia Beach, Va. – One of several men who invaded a Virginia Beach home last night is recovering after being shot by one of the home’s residents.
Virginia Beach police say they responded to a 911 call around 9:50 p.m. about a residential burglary and gunfire heard in the 5500 block of Aurora Drive, in the Diamond Springs section of the city.
When Police and EMS arrived, they found a man a short distance from the home with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.
Police say the invasion began when the homeowner opened the door to let an acquaintance in. Several unknown suspects barged into the home at that time with guns and attempted to rob the occupants.
One resident happened to be outside when the suspects barged in and was able to walk unnoticed into the house and retrieve a handgun.
When one of armed suspects emerged from a roommate’s bedroom, the resident fired his gun, striking the suspect in the leg.
All of the suspects fled the scene, but the wounded man was caught when police arrived.
Police say charges are pending against at least two of the identified suspects.
