Newport News police are asking citizens to limit travel on roadways and remain at home this evening. Even after the heavy rains end, there will be a risk of tidal flooding this evening.
If citizens must travel, police say to stay away from the area of Church Road and Normandy Lane because the roads are flooded and impassable.
Spokesperson Holly McPherson says due to incidences around the city, fire and police manpower are limited and calls for service will be prioritized.
